Their Place on PCH is an after-school shop space for young people to be mentored in mechanics, metal fabrication and manufacturing. The hope is that we can mentor and guide students toward a path to living wage jobs.
The big picture of Their Place is to find students who may not be able to show their skills and abilities in a classroom environment and as such are unable to cultivate marketable skills. Most likely they have no clue what they are going to do after high school and are likely destined to low wage jobs matching their limited skill set.
Our best hope is to get young people to look up, discover what they are good at, learn the importance of picking up many and varied marketable skills, stay busy and out of trouble and then make a plan to achieve a living wage and the security that comes with it.
It can be done, there are many paths out there such as community colleges, trade schools, trade unions, or public service careers and more.
